Reactive Recycling

Spin PET fibers with more recycled content.

Without losing tenacity or a stable spinning window.

Problems

Recycled PET feedstock — bottle flake, internal scrap, fiber-to-fiber — comes in with lower and more variable intrinsic viscosity. In fiber production that narrows the spinning window, raises the risk of breaks and interruptions at higher recycled content, and leaves mechanical performance lower and less predictable. It’s most acute in continuous filament and textile yarn, where tenacity and stretching performance have to stay high.

Opportunity

The IV drop is what caps recycled content in demanding fiber applications — and every break or interruption on the spinning line is lost throughput. Lifting that ceiling means broader, cheaper feedstock (including fiber-to-fiber) and steadier production, not a trade-off against fiber quality.

Higher recycled content — including lower-IV and fiber-to-fiber streams that were previously off the table — displaces virgin and higher-grade feedstock, while steadier spinning cuts downtime. More recycled content at lower cost, with fiber performance intact.

Proof

  • Enables broader feedstock, including fiber-to-fiber recycled material
  • Higher tenacity and improved elongation / stretching
  • Wider, more stable spinning window
  • Fewer breaks and less downtime from fiber breakage
  • Stabilised spin-block pressure and melt behaviour
  • Runs on existing lines at normal processing temperatures
  • Two matched routes: continuous filament vs. staple/carpet

Reactive Recycling rebuilds polymer performance in the melt, on existing extrusion equipment at normal processing temperatures. It’s applied as a heat-activated masterbatch — pre-compounded or dosed directly in the spinning line — and the IV enhancer is matched to the fiber type. For continuous filament and textile yarn, a linear chain-extension route raises IV while improving tenacity and stretching. For staple and carpet fibers, a proven standard IV enhancer gives a fast, cost-effective IV increase and a wider feedstock window. Both stabilise the melt and the spin-block, and both run on current lines.
