Reactive Recycling

Extrude HDPE pipe with more recycled content.

Without losing dimensional control or long-term lifetime.

Problems

Pipe extrusion is one of the most demanding polyethylene processes, and recycled PE struggles to meet it. Low melt strength causes sagging and deformation, thick-wall pipes go oval and lose dimensional stability, and variable MFR and batch quality make the line unpredictable. On top of that, recycled material carries reduced stabilisation — shorter service life — which makes it hard to meet the long-term mechanical and pressure requirements pipe has to pass. So recycled content stays capped.

Opportunity

Pipe is long-life, regulated infrastructure, so the bar is high — and every one of these limitations keeps recycled content out. Sagging and ovality mean scrap and rejects; reduced stabilisation means recycled material simply can’t qualify for pressure and infrastructure lifetimes. Lifting these constraints is what lets recycled PE into a high-volume, high-value application it’s largely been shut out of.

Higher recycled content displacing virgin PE, less scrap from unstable extrusion, and low-dosage efficiency from R401 — while restored OIT and mechanical performance let recycled material qualify for demanding, long-life pipe it couldn’t reach before. More recycled content, lower cost, and a far larger addressable market.

Proof

  • Restored melt strength — less sagging and deformation
  • Improved extrusion stability and wall-thickness distribution
  • Reduced sensitivity to variable recycled feedstock
  • Higher rHDPE content with reduced virgin PE blending
  • Strong melt strength at low dosage (NexCircle® R401)
  • Restored oxidative stability (OIT) for long service life
  • Consistent colour on recycled polyolefins (ReColour Plus™)

Reactive Recycling™ rebuilds polymer structure during extrusion, on existing lines. Dosed as a masterbatch, it restores melt strength and stabilises processing — less sagging and deformation, better wall-thickness distribution, and far less sensitivity to feedstock variation. It’s part of a multi-functional platform: melt-strength restoration, oxidative stabilisation for lifetime, mechanical performance, and colour for recycled polyolefins — so higher recycled content doesn’t compromise processability or the properties the pipe has to hold for decades.
